N.H. Group Acquires Comptus, Inc.

Comptus, Inc. ™, a leading producer of quality atmospheric and weather condition devices, has been acquired by Beta Group, a New Hampshire-based manufacturing management company which plans to keep and grow the operation within the state.

The transaction involving the New Boston company closed Thursday, March 30 and was coordinated by Business Transition Strategies, a division of N.H. Business Sales Inc. of Pembroke. Funding for the acquisition was provided in part by TD Bank Small Business Division.

“We intend to continue expanding markets domestically and abroad for the quality devices made by Comptus,” commented Andrew White, MBA, president of Beta. “The company is known for providing quality yet affordable devices, and we intend to perpetuate this reputation.”

The other half of the acquisition team is Earl Dodge, who draws on three decades of experience in engineering and manufacturing production. “In addition to serving our existing customers, we intend to seek new uses for our devices,” Dodge said. “We are stepping into the lead of a growing company with a great network of production partners, most of them within New Hampshire, who will continue working closely with us to meet demand.”

Comptus, Inc. ™ was incorporated in 1991 by Leander Nichols, an engineer who built the company up after acquiring the assets of the former Controlex Corporation. Nichols ultimately intends to retire and pursue his interest in deep sea diving, but will remain actively involved for an extended transition period to help with customer relations, product development and engineer

“We feel this transaction provides a good transition for Comptus and all involved,” commented John Howe, director of Business Transition Strategies who together with Ken Schaefer, deputy director, coordinated the sale. “The company continues in the hands of New Hampshire residents who can capitalize on a global marketplace that values its ISO 9001 commitment to continuous improvement.”

What our clients are saying...

“What a great experience it was to work with John Howe, who sold my business in May 2012. A year prior, his thorough analysis of the business pointed out ways to increase annual revenue. Because of this, I made changes that immediately increased revenue, substantially increasing the value of the business. John then found the right buyer and coordinated a seamless transition—he doesn’t miss a single detail. He provides excellent business consultation, is highly organized, and a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend John to anyone who is looking to sell their business or simply improve the bottom line.”
